
Getting the Heat Right for Your Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time running high-speed PET blowing lines, you know the struggle. You need to get the center of that preform wall hot enough to move, but the second you push it, you risk scorching the surface. It’s a balancing act. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to focus on short-wave infrared (SWIR). Instead of just heating the “skin” of the plastic, these lamps push the heat deep into the material. You get a uniform temperature throughout, which means no more annoying pearlescence or those thin spots that ruin a bottle. The power side of things We’ve tuned these for high voltage and wattage to keep the heat footprint tight. Because the energy is concentrated in that short-wave spectrum, it basically skips the outer layer and dumps the heat right where it belongs. It lets you speed up your cycle times. Just a heads-up, though: keep an eye on your power supplies. If you’re seeing voltage spikes with these high-wattage tubes, your filaments are going to burn out way faster than they should. Built to take a beating Heat cycling is brutal on equipment. To handle that thermal shock, we use high-purity quartz glass. We also obsess over the connectors—usually R7s or Sk15. Why? Because a loose connection is a nightmare. You get arcing, your sockets fail, and suddenly you’re dealing with downtime you didn’t plan for. We also add specific coatings to the quartz to make sure the energy is hitting the exact wavelengths that PET actually absorbs. Fitting them in These are drop-in replacements. They work easily with Husky setups and Krones Contiform 3 Pro lines. But here is the thing: you’re adding a lot more heat density to the mix. You need to make sure your cooling blowers are actually doing their job. If your airflow is sluggish, all that extra radiant energy can bake your oven chassis or chew through your conveyor belts. And a pro tip? Keep your reflectors polished. If they’re dirty, you lose the focus of the beam, and you’re just wasting energy.
