
Getting Your PET Blowing Machine Lamps Right (Without the Headache)
If you’ve ever spent a weekend wrestling with brackets or rewiring a machine just to get a new lamp to fit, you know how frustrating it is. Your PET blowing machine needs a very specific kind of heat—enough to soften the plastic, but not so much that you’re scorching your preforms. We wanted to fix that. That’s why we make our IR lamps “drop-in” replacements. No custom brackets. No electrical nightmares. Just swap them out and get back to work. The trick to a perfect fit Most machines actually follow a pretty standard footprint. We build our tubes to match those global dimensions, but we really obsess over where the lamp hits the socket. We stick with R7s and SK15 connectors because they just work. If a lamp sits loose, you get arcing. And arcing burns out your sockets. It’s as simple as that. Then there’s the power. You can’t just throw any bulb in there. If you put a 400V high-output tube into a 230V circuit, you’re going to blow a fuse. On the flip side, if you under-power them, your bottles end up with uneven walls. Not a good look. What’s actually inside the glass? We use high-purity quartz and halogen gas. Why? Because it lets the filament get screaming hot without the glass turning dark and cloudy over time. Some of our lamps even have special coatings. Instead of the heat bouncing off the surface of the plastic, these coatings help the IR energy actually sink into the PET wall. It’s more efficient, and your bottles come out better. Real talk: The shop floor is brutal Let’s be honest: these lamps live in a nightmare of heat and vibration. We build ours to handle that constant “hot-cold-hot” cycle without cracking. But here’s a tip: if you switch to high-wattage lamps to speed up your cycle times, keep an eye on your cooling fans. More heat means your fans have to work harder. If your cooling system is clogged with dust or just too small, your lamps will overheat at the end-caps and die early. We keep these specs in stock and ready to ship. That way, when you have a scheduled shutdown on a Saturday, you can just swap them and go home, rather than waiting weeks for an OEM shipment to arrive.
