Getting Your Sidel Matrix Ovens Back in Sync
If you’ve ever tried swapping out infrared lamps in a Sidel Matrix oven, you know the headache. You put in a third-party lamp, everything looks fine on the surface, but then you start seeing wall-thickness defects in your bottles. It’s frustrating. Here’s the thing: getting a replacement lamp to act like the original isn’t a guessing game. It’s just physics. If the wattage, voltage, or spectral output is even slightly off, your temperature profile shifts. Suddenly, your preforms aren’t heating evenly, and you’re fighting your equipment instead of running it. Matching the specs, exactly. We don’t do “close enough.” When we build our lamps, we mirror the electrical footprint of the original Sidel specs. If the machine asks for a specific voltage and wattage over a certain length, that’s exactly what we deliver. Why does that matter? Because if the voltage is off, the filament runs too hot or too cold. That changes the infrared wavelength. PET resin is picky—it only absorbs heat at specific frequencies. If the spectrum shifts, the heat won’t actually penetrate to the core of the preform. The lamp might feel scorching hot to the touch, but the plastic isn’t “feeling” it. We align the spectral output so the heat sinks in exactly the way it was designed to. Plug and play. We use high-purity quartz and halogen gas fills to make sure the filaments don’t give up under high thermal stress. And since we use the standard connectors for Sidel Matrix setups, these are true drop-in replacements. You won’t have to mess with your wiring or carve up your oven housing. You just put them in and get back to work. One quick heads-up. These high-density lamps put out a massive amount of heat to keep up with those high-speed blowing cycles. That puts a lot of pressure on your ventilation. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or starting to fail, these lamps will basically bake your reflectors. That’s a quick way to burn out the quartz envelope way sooner than it should. Keep your airflow clean, and your lamps will last a lot longer.
